The Picassos Have Arrived! A retrospective exhibition with works from Basel Collections

The Kunstmuseum Basel presents a comprehensive retrospective of Pablo Picasso's works drawn exclusively from collections in Basel. The peerless Picasso collections at the Kunstmuseum Basel and the Fondation Beyeler will be joined under one roof for the first time. Works from the numerous Basel collections normally closed to the public will compliment these. In combination they result in a comprehensive exhibition that presents works of the highest caliber from all of Picasso's important periods. In addition, the special relationship Basel enjoyed with Picasso will be discussed. The legendary "Picasso year” 1967, when the people of Basel secured the two paintings Les deux frères and Arlequin assis for the Kunstmuseum Basel in a plebiscite and a collection campaign, will be portrayed in a filmic and photographic documentation. This declaration of love by the people of Basel so touched Picasso that he donated three paintings and a famous study to the city.
